Chutes are used to move both passengers and cargo.

One of the most dangerous creatures in Metru Nui, Chute Lurkers are fortunately quite rare. They are omnivorous and their preferred hunting ground is inside chutes. These creatures are capable of breathing liquid protodermis and although they can breathe air as well, they prefer to avoid being outside the chutes any more than they have to be. Chute spiders hunt by locking themselves into place in a chute with their arms, then waiting for objects, other Rahi, and even Matoran to come speeding towards them. Once caught by a Chute Lurker, there is rarely any escape unless aided by a Matoran or a Vahki.

Gate Guardians
All one ever sees of a Gate Guardian is a relatively small creature, ranging from 45 to 162 cm tall. Try to approach one, though, and long before you reach it, you will be batted aside, although the Guardian never seems to touch you. The reason for this is that the true Gate Guardian is roughly two or three times the size of the one that is seen - it projects an image of a smaller version of itself while keeping its true self invisible, as a trap for the unwary. The small version mimics the actions of the larger, unseen Guardian. Enemies often exhaust themselves trying to bring down the small Guardian they see, never knowing that their true opponent is hidden from them. Gate Guardians are followers of the Visorak, used as sentries at sites that are important but not so vital that an Elite Visorak is required.

She is so subtle that even something apparently majorly wrong she could work to her advantage, and she makes "... plans of her own, plans so subtle and so devious that even the master of shadows would applaud, were he free." She is normally above hatred, although she does know, and hate, the Rahaga.

Roodaka is plotting to do something, and apparently Sidorak will have a negative result from it ("... Sidorak trusted Roodaka. That was his first mistake." This is emphasised by her working Sidorak's ideas to her own advantage and occasionally changing his plans. Exactly what she is planning to do can be no more than hypothesised from the text. "She needed the Toa to achieve her ultimate plan ..." But what her ultimate plan is unknown.

Roodaka can shoot shadow energy from her hands, and her Rhotuka spinners cause things to mutate. She cannot fly on her own, but occasionally rides a Nui-Kopen.

Roodaka has been known to toss Visorak off of high places if they "disobey her, question her orders, look at her the wrong way, or look at her for too long." She is obviously a leader to be obeyed – and not to be stared at!

Vakama uses his forge and tools to make Kanohi masks. This is a very complicated process that involves carving a mask from a Kanoka disk or else melting down a disk and pouring the molten protodermis into a mold. Although Vakama has been a mask-maker for a while now, he has not made very many Great Masks.

The Valley Of Unending Whispers

This desolate spot in Po-Metru is avoided even by Po-Matoran. It got its name from the fact that even the slightest noise will echo time and again off the rocks. It is home to many species of wild Rahi and is a favourite of Kikanalo, who enjoy running through its narrow, winding passages. Lately, Matoran have been barred from entering the area by Vahki squads. Why this is so, and what may be going on there, remains a mystery.

Toa Metru
The six Toa of Metru Nui.

Toa Matau
Matau loves risk and adventure. As a Matoran, he spent every spare moment on the Le-Metru Moto-Hub test track, trying to see how fast he could make new vehicles go before they fell apart. Now that he is a Toa, he sees the potential for unlimited excitement and glory. He doesn’t mind getting to hang around with Nokama all the time, either.

Toa Nokama
As a Ga-Metru teacher, Nokama was always the voice of reason. As Toa of Water, she finds herself fulfilling the same role, this time with five strong-willed heroes of Metru Nui. Although she is great friends with Vakama and very supportive of him, she is also not afraid to take on the leadership role herself when the situation demands it. She takes second place to no one in terms of bravery or wisdom.

Toa Onewa
Po-Metru carvers are very practical beings, and Onewa is no different. He sees no point in worrying about the past or the future. As a Toa, he is the same: focus on the problem at hand, at things you can see and hear, and worry about everything else later. This leads him into conflict with Nuju, Whenua, and Vakama, but he isn’t a Toa to be liked. He is a Toa to help save Metru Nui.

Toa Nuju
Like most Ko-Matoran, Nuju spent his life working alone in a Knowledge Tower and trying to predict the future. Now he suddenly finds himself forced to team with other Toa and worry about the welfare of the entire city rather than just his small part of it. Instead of studying, he now has to act, and it is something he still has not adjusted to. He has no idea why Lhikan chose the six Matoran he did to become Toa – it is certainly not the team Nuju would have picked!

Toa Nuva
The six mighty Toa, their powers enhanced with new armor, masks and tools.

Toa Stone
Six ancient relics that are the key to summoning the Toa.

Toa Vakama
Prior to becoming the new Toa of Fire, Vakama was one of the very few mask-makers at work in Metru Nui. Despite his talent, he was never very sure of himself, and he remains probably the least confident Toa. He isn’t sure why Toa Lhikan chose him for the honour of becoming of a hero, and he worries that he will fail. But he is determined to try his hardest to live up to the responsibility given to him.

Toa Whenua
During all the time Whenua spent studying history as an Onu-Metru archivist, he never dreamed he would one day be making it as a Toa Metru. Although dismissed by Onewa as "just a librarian," Whenua has a strong sense of honour and a fierce love for his city. As Toa of Earth, he has vowed to protect Metru Nui, even if it costs his own life.

Vahki
Robotic order enforcement squads in Metru Nui. Metru Nui’s robotic order enforcement squads, the Vahki were built by Matoran to police the city. This they do very efficiently, protecting Matoran from Rahi attacks and making sure the work of the city gets done. They are relentless, cold, and never give up on a chase. Each of the six types of Vahki are equipped with stun staffs which affect the minds of their targets, making it easier to pacify lawbreakers.

Vakama
Turaga of Ta-Koro, Matoran mask maker in the Metru Nui district of Ta-Metru and Toa Metru of Fire in the city of Metru Nui.

Vakama Hordika
The Toa Metru of Ta-Metru, who has been poisoned by the evil Visorak.

Visorak
The Visorak are large, spider-like, Rahi who have overrun the sleeping city of Metru Nui.

The Visorak have been "watching" Metru Nui for a while before they invaded. For how long and from where is unknown, but at least throughout the course of the defeating of the Morbuzakh.

The Visorak produce webbing as strong as steel from their mouths (between the mandibles) and have basically wrapped Metru Nui up in it. A thick green mist accompanied this webbing, but if it has any connection to the Visorak at all is unknown.

The Visorak send signals to each other in the manner of vibrations in the webbing.

Visorak have a language of their own, but it is not the same as Matoran.

The Visorak are biomechanical and do not have any connection to either Vahki or Bohrok.

Visorak are sentient/intelligent on the level of the Bohrok-Kal and Krahka.

The Visorak launch Rhotuka spinners from the hollow in their backs. Each Visorak has two spinner powers and another non-spinner power.

The Visorak are led by two beings, Sidorak and Roodaka. Some Visorak prefer Sidorak, others prefer Roodaka, and some are indifferent. However, Visorak are not eager to displease Roodaka and "Visorak who annoyed Roodaka rarely lived to see another hunt." Whether or not the same is true of Sidorak is unknown.

Visorak hunt in hordes, sometimes led by their king, Sidorak.

The Visorak are described as "stealers of life."

The Visorak mutate things fore experiments, apparently to see what the results will be.

The Visorak utilize a strategy of "island hopping" in that they travel from one environ in the system of caves beneath Mata Nui to another, conquering them as they go. As such, all the Rahi who have turned up in Mata Nui were fleeing from them – and Metru Nui was the last spot to go to, so the Visorak eventually came there, too.

The Visorak have set up a "home base" in the Coliseum.

The Visorak feed off of the energies of the Colony Drones' spinners, and as such bring large quanties of these creatures with them when travelling to new islands

Visorak Venom
Visorak venom is a substance that, when injected into a living being, has the ability to cause radical mutations. These mutations can make the being larger, smaller, or the being can remain the same size, but the venom causes the victim to become gradually more Rahi-like in nature (both physical and mental).

If a cure is not found for the venom, to either negate or halt its effects, then eventually the being will actually become a Rahi because the venom will have completely taken hold.

Creatures injected with the venom become, in general, more wrathful and quick to anger, with reckless actions taking the place of reasoning unless the victim can "gain control" over his/her beastial side so that his/her old mind is in control versus the beastial instincts.

Visorak venom is injected through barbs on the inside of the cocoons in which the victims are wrapped by the Visorak. Basically, the more the creature squirms to get out, the more venom it receives.

Visorak venom was responsible for mutating the Toa Metru into Toa Hordika.
